2 months + 1 week + 3 days

The big news for this week is that we went to Dr. King's on Tuesday for Zoe's 2 month check-up and (ouch!) 2 month shots. She did really well during the visit and though she cried for the shots; it did not last long. Dr. King said she is doing great and she weighed in at 11 lbs. 6 oz. We were amazed because we were just at the doctor's office the previous Monday to check on her diaper rash. She weighed 10 lbs 3 oz then, so she gained 1 1/4 lb in only a week!

She is making more interesting sounds now and we can see her making new facial expressions as she continues to check out her world!

Have a good week,
K.

This is a happy face.

As opposed to her serious face.

Hmmm, what Zoe might look like with long hair?

Now, that is one hip baby.

almost Spring...

Tomorrow marks the beginning of Spring, though the weather is still cold here. We stopped at Rita's this afternoon and had a treat, so that made it feel even closer to Spring for us. We had a nice weekend and even managed a milestone event. Mom and Dad went to see V FOR VENDETTA while Gram and Aunt Karen babysat on Friday evening. It was the first time we we both out of the house without her. The movie was excellent and mom enjoyed it without suffering any "I miss my baby" freakouts! The weekend nights were a little rougher, since little Zoe wants to eat every hour ( or as mom says - non-stop) and wants to be up at night. She cries, but it is not wailing cries, more like "please interact with me" cries because as soon as Mom and dad start talking to each other, she will quiet down!

Zoe turned 8 weeks this past Thursday and a 2 month calendar birthday today, which means that Zoe is due for some vaccination shots on Tueday, so we are not really looking forward to that, but these things must be done.

The other big news since my last post on my birthday was that we had Zoe's "Coming out" party on Mom's birtday; Sunday 03/12. Many people showed up that had not yet met her and brought her some nice gifts. We would like to personally thank everyone who came to the party. It was a nice time for everyone. The only downside was that it was hard to visit equally with everyone and to take as many pictures as we would have liked. Though I did get a nice one of my mom and dad with her, we should have taken more.

Onto some pictures. Have a good week everyone.

39 years and 7 weeks

I am off today and Friday for my birthday, so a nice 4 day weekend for us all to enjoy together. We are going to have lunch at El Serrano's later this afternoon and Park City to buy my bday gift, a new 360 game.

Last weekend on Sunday (after I posted) we travelled to Barra and Zoe got to meet her great grandparents finally. It was supposed to happen for weeks, but we just had too many weekends where at least one of us felt sick, so it was nice that it finally happened. We took some nice pictures and even some dvd. I am almost done with the first Zoe dvd; relase date to follow.

This Sunday is Zoe's "Coming Out Party" from 12-5pm, so we hope to see a lot of people there, where I will finally get to corner some people and ask WHY THEY NEVER LEAVE ANY COMMENTS ON THE BLOG! C'mon people, it won't kill you to leave a comment. I check it every day and I am always disappointed that members are not leaving comments, especially the people that don't get to see her every week. Ok, I am stepping down off the soapbox.

On a final nore, I weighed myself last week, then hopped back on the scale with Zoe (around 6 weeks for her) and got a difference of 11 pounds. She is not quite so dinky anymore.

6 weeks and a day

A Friday night post - something I haven't done before. We got used to the new camera and so far are very happy with the higher quality pictures that it can produce.

Zoe is doing great and getting bigger everyday. In fact, just this morning I got on the scale and weighed myself, then held her in my arms and weighed us both and came up with 11 lbs. for Zoe; we even tried it twice. Jen and I were surprised at that!

Things are going really well. She wakes up at night to feed, but generally is not overly fussy, though she does have her crying fits from time to time. Mom bares the brunt of this, since she wakes up all night as dad sleeps, but Dad IS getting up at 5:15am to feed the horses during the week and changes his share of diapers!

Can't think of much more to say and it's almost time to watch a movie, so enjoy some new pictures.

The Doodle and Zoe

No big news this week with the exception that our digital camera died and we had to order a new one on-line pronto. The new one takes a higher resolution picture, is smaller, and has more features than the last one. Thing is we didn't have a camera for about 5 days, so I don't have as many pictures for this week. I have a bunch of pictures of family members (Traylors and MacNeills) holding her, but I like to only post pictures of her by herself here or with mom and dad. We will start playing with the new camera more this week and will have a bunch of new pictures next week.

For now, I though the Doodle needed to have some more of his pictures on here, since the Zazu has been on here a bunch.

Enjoy and we will see you back here next week.

Zoe turns one........month old.

Zoe is in fact one month old this past Thursday. Now we can move to celebrating her monthly birthdays on the 19th of each month instead of trying to remember exactly how many Thursdays it has been since her birth.

We took her to the doctor's office for her one month check up this past Wed and she nows weighs 8 lbs. 1/2 oz. so we were very happy that she had gained some weight. She was very good for Dr. King and didn't cry or anything. She passed all her tests and Dr. King said she was in great shape, so that made Mom and Dad happy.

We had a nice visit from Uncle Andrew, Pop-Pop, and Ruth on Valentine's Day. They brought a nice outfit for Zoe and pizza for Mom and Dad.

Now enjoy some new pictures.

One of Jen's favorite pictures of Zoe.

Zazu likes to know where Zoe is at all times!

Apparently she loves her mommy.

This is the one we call "Number One baby" and one of Dad's favorites pictures thus far.

just one more...

Ok, snowbound on a Sunday, so I figured I could post one more time this weekend to get a few more (more recent) pictures up on the blog. I also don't want to get behind in photos so that I am always posting pictures that are weeks old. I want to get to the point where I am posting pictures that were taken during the week on the weekends.

It was a lazy Sunday and Jen is getting a bit of a cold with a sore throat, but Zoe is doing well. We have a doctor's appointment for her this coming Wednesday, one full day before she turns 4 weeks or one month old. Time really does fly by. Have a good week and I will see you back here next weekend with the next round of pictures.

And for all you lurkers ( looking at pictures, but not signing up with blogger) get with the program so you can leave comments!

dutch baby

Saturday afternoon and we are now hanging out inside as the first "blizzard" of 2006 falls down upon us. I actually remembered to post before another week went by! Now I just have to remember to bust out the dvd camcorder and capture some more video of Zoe. Something I only did when she first got home. I want to get in the habit of blogging and taking video of her every weekend. I want to shoot just 5 minutes or so of video a week to watch her progress. Our friend Becky just showed us one of her infamous scrapbooks this afternoon of her daughter sitting in a Boppy in the same position from 1 month to 15 months I think. It was really cool to see the progression, so J and I are going to try to do that on the 19th of each nonth.

Ok, dutch baby pictures now. Our good friend Solange ( Hi S - thanks for the crazy licorice!) who lives in Holland sent us a great care package for us and the baby. We try to send these care packages back and forth a few times a year. It's fun to look for cool stuff for her while we are out shopping over the course of the year. Anyhoo, she sent some cool clothes for Zoe that have bunnies and say "funny bunny" on them including the cute Jester hat.

So here are all of these pictures. I love the one of mom and Zoe.

we are back...

Ok, so it was a bit of a long week, so it's been over a week since I have posted. I am going to try to get in the habit of posting on the weekend, but this one just flew by.

It was a nice weekend; our first real weekend since I have gone back to school this week. We had some milestones. We went to the grocery store together on Saturday and on Sunday we went to J's mom house (Mom-mom and Poppa John's) so those were 2 big excursions for us that went well. Later we came back to our house and watched the Super Bowl with Grammy and Aunt Karen.

Other things this week were that we went to the doctor's on Monday 01/30/06 and Zoe had gained 3.5 ounces in 5 days. It didn't seem like much to me, but the doctor was happy.

Ok, enough they all said, get to the pictures.

ok, you got it.

ok, typing one handed as i hold Zoe now, so no captions for the pictures today!

the day before back to work for dad

Later this evening, Zoe will be 10 days old. Mom and I are enjoying this last day of my "birth vacation" together. Tomorrow I have to go back to work, which seems a bit surreal, but there are just things you gotta do in life. I keep telling myself that I have the perfect job as a teacher to be a parent. I am usually home a few minutes after 3 p.m. every day and I have summer off (of course), but also 10-12 days off for christmas, etc. So I am thinking that this monday will suck, but that it will get easier with each day and especially since I have some time off in March and Easter break to look forward to in the near future. I have a "brag book" full of pictures to take tomorrow to school to show my fellow teachers, but I don't think I'll be able to look at them this week. I even have 2 empty picture frames on my desk that will probably stay that way, at least for a week until I can look at her picture without tearing up when I am away from her. Wish me luck tomorrow! Oh yeah, tomorrow we take Zoe back to the doctor's for a check up and to see how much weight she has put back on since she is supposed to get back to her birth weight within 2 weeks. She has been eating like crazy, so that shouldn't be a problem for her. Ok, enjoy some new pictures.

day six

It's hard to believe that Zoe will be a week old tomorrow evening. I guess I finally understand the whole "kids grow up so fast" thing. That post from 2 days ago wore me out a bit, so I didn't post yesterday. Mom and Zoe are both napping now, so I thought I would get some more pictures on here and make a short post.

Things are going well from with Zoe from roughly morning til midnight. She gets breatfed and she sleeps (in two different bassinets) just fine. After her 9pm (or there abouts) feeding, Jen goes to bed to bank some sleep and I stay up with her in the living room. When Jen wakes up to feed her around 11:30-12, she eats and then gets really fussy and won't sleep in the bassinet, but will be quiet if she lays on my chest or if Jen holds her. It makes for some sleepless nights, but that appears to be about the norm for this point and hopefully it will continue to get better. I am preparing to just be tired my first month or so back at school. Ok, here are some more pictures from day 2 while still at the hospital and teh last one is the first picture of Mom and Zoe at home. More to follow.

Zoe sleeping in the hospital bassinet or "the tub" as I called it.

One of my favorite pictures so far because she in grasping my finger and you can see my wedding ring.

two becomes three

Well, here we are on Zoe's 4th day on the planet. Mom and Zoe are both sleeping now, so I thought I would take this time to upload and edit pictures and finally create the first post that actually features a picture of Zoe.

Everyone that visits this blog has already heard the story of Zoe's birth on Thursday 01/19/06, 3 weeks and 1 day before her due date of February 10th by emergency c-section. So therefore I am not going to go through the whole thing here because it would be really long, but I do want to write about one moment that makes me well up whenever I even think about it.

Jen was in the O.R. getting the spinal and I was waiting outside in full scrubs, waiting for the ok to go inside. My head was already spinning with the words "emergency c-section" and "alert the NICU" ( NeoNatal Intensive care Unit) as I was pacing about the hallway. I was very very anxious and I was trying to stay calm as much as I could. I didn't want Jen to see me too freaked out. Then a nurse waved me to the door, only to stop me just as I was about to enter. The nurse now said I couldn't go in and I knew there was a problem. a little later the nurse said the spinal went up into her chest and she was having trouble breathing, so they had to completely knock her out. I was not allowed to go in at all now, so I had to wait in a chair in the hallway out the the O.R. rooms. I felt like I my world was slowly closing in on me. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I figited with Jen's wedding band that I had on one of her ponytail bands wrapped on my wrist. I felt horrible and useless and more afraid than I have ever felt in my life. Most of the nurses and support people that came and went out of the room would not even make eye contact with me. The moment I will never forget is a nurse came out and looked at me and came right over and said "Your baby is coming out soon and I am going to be there to catch her. Your wife is going to be ok and your baby is going to be ok. Just hang in there" and then she hugged me and went back in. That helped me focus and I calmed down a bit and just sat and waited. About 15 minutes after that, I could hear a baby crying and they told me she was a girl and appeared healthy and that she would probably be going to the regular nursery and not the NICU which in fact turned out to be the case. I will never forget what that nurse said to me. I realized later that, for me this felt like the end of the world, for her it was probably just an avergae Thursday night at work. Another 15 minutes and I got to meet my daughter face to face. I picked up her and she stopped crying. The nurse said that was the first she stopped crying since being born. I couldn't belive how beautiful and tiny she looked. She had a normal shaped head - not those squashed and torpedo shaped ones I had been seeing on the discovery health channel! 2 hours after she was born, Jen finally got to meet her daughter and we started our life as a family together.

See there, I lied. I said it wasn't going to be long post and it was. I will post again tomorrow with new pictures and accounts of days two and onward. Until then, behold the face of joy.

Zoe's Room

Christmas Day 2005. Jen and I are very happy that we completed Zoe's room just before the holidays. We can't believe that we will have an almost 1 year old girl next Christmas. We got $$ from my parents and from a Baby Shower that my assistant Lisa organized at school. We are going to use this money to buy a really nice dvd camcorder, so that the documentation can begin and maybe I can figure out how to post them on this blog. This is my first attempt at pictures. How do they look? Unfortunately, my mom is very sick today because I was hoping to have her see the nursery, but I guess that will have to wait for a few days. We are going to have Christmas dinner at Jen's mom's house later this afternoon. Happy Holidays everyone!
